Translab Shift Kit Install

This consists of 3 different pages due to the large number of Pics. I would hate for you to wait all day for one page to load.

Please Follow the instructions provided with the kit very very closely. There are a lot of little things involved and if you miss one you may have to do double work. Also, this is to give a visual of what is involved. I did not cover the whole procedure. Do at your own risk! This should be done slowly and carefully!

For parts you may need for this job and more click here. A parts explosion of the valve body is here. The pic for parts explosion is not big in browser. You can right click> Choose save picture as> and open it on you desktop with a photo editor to enlarge.

For the Translab kits you can email Dean Mason of Translab. He is the creator of the kit and the owner of the company. deanmason@juno.com

The arrow points to the drain pug (17mm Socket). Remove this and let it drain. Then remove the 14 pan bolts and have a drain pan below to catch the fluid. Oh yeah, plan to smell of fluid for a while.
This is the pan off. Note the 3 magnets at the bottom left. Put those in a safe place. Look at pan for pieces of metal or other debris. If some is there be concerned and seek professional help. Mine was fine so I wiped it clean of fluid and removed gasket matter from pan.
Underneath the car, there is the tranny filter (black). Remove 4 (10mm) bolts and it comes off. The part number for the kit is on the parts page. Change this since you are in there. BTW, I had the parts in hand before the job. Last time I tried to find the filter kit I had a hard time and had to wait.
Remove the 10mm bolts to drop the valve body down (indicated by white lines). The brown arrow bolt needs to be left in place. All bolts are the same length but two. Make a note of where they go. Have something (my case an upside down flower pot) a few inches underneath it to hold the valve body up higher so you don't pull to hard on the wires. That will keep it high enough to remove the solenoids and so on. Examine where everything goes carefully. There are a few brackets to remove.
Starting from the top. Remove the solenoid (8mm socket from here on). Bracket and two solenoids. Note the wires and where they go for putting it back together later. The instructions show a third Solenoid for lockup models. Mine does not have one.
Here hang the solenoids. It seemed easier to let them hang there. I left the screws in to keep from mixing them up. Remove any other wires, etc. The left arrow is to show where the O-ring seal goes for install. See a few pics down.

Just in case you forget later which goes where. Left (yellow) arrow is solenoid with yellow wires. Right is the orange.

I left the wires hanging. The arrow shows where the O-ring seal is stuck. Gently peel it loose. Yours may be on the valve body. DO Not Lose this!
Place valve body in a tray or pan. This will help to keep springs and balls from moving to far away. Also, catch fluid and keep your floor clean. I used my fiancee's sweater box here. She should have known better than to leave it in the garage. :)
