APEXi SAFC Install Companion
Here are some extra pictures to go with the VFAQ here: http://www.jgronline.com/gvr4_afc_instructions.html . It is a great VFAQ for the 1G T/E/L and Galant VR4s. I am just giving you extra Pictures to look at and a visual idea of how I tapped into the lines and where they are tapped. There are different ways to do this (Butt connectors, cut and twist wires etc.....).
Be very careful doing this!!! Read the VFAQ First!! Do at your own risk!!!

Here is the New SAFC for my 1991 AWD AT. This is to help manage the 450 cc injectors (Replacing the 390s) and 14B Turbo swap. I also have one in my 1993 AWD as well. |

Remove the ECU via passenger side of console (VFAQ on this somewhere) and unplug the harnesses from it. The arrow shows where I cut and soldered the red SAFC wire to the power wire on the ECU harness. |

I found it helps get more wire out to disconnect the ground wire (10mm bolt)(solid lower right Arrow) remove the Phillips screw holding the fuzzy plastic piece (Upper left arrow) and move it out of the way. Do not tug on the wires too hard or you could break one. |

After soldering I wrapped the wire very well with electrical tape so it won't pull loose. I ran the SAFC wire about an inch along the ECU wire rather than wrap it in a "T" pattern at point of solder. This way any pulling on the wire will not be at the solder point. |

This shows how the Black and Brown wire should be
connected. The Brown closest to the plug and the Black farthest.

This is to give a visual of the Air Flow Signal wiring,
Pink connects to the wire on the connector and Orange connects to the
part going into the dash.

Take electrical tape and wrap it up well.

Plug it all back in and carefully slide the ECU back in making sure you do not mess up the wires. I actually had to put the ECU in first and then connect the plugs under the console. |

Here is a picture of it Temporarily mounted. I like to pull it out of the car when parked. This way no one can gab the unit and run off and if they steal the whole car, it will run poorly. Hit the DSM lists and instructions for tuning. I did not turn the engine on until I double checked the settings. |
