Prothane Motor Mount Install Transmission Side (ABS)
If you do not have ABS, then it will be easier. If you do I briefly describe the way I worked around the unit.

Jack the car up and place securely on jack stands. Block the wheels and brake on so on... Remove the passenger front wheel to access bolts shown later. |

Remove the battery tie-down (two 10mm bolts) and the Battery tray. To make life easier I remove all of the stuff around the mount. Takes a few minutes and saves a lot of frustration. Remove the four bolts (12mm) that hold down the battery shelf. There are several harnesses connected to this. I cut them loose and will use twist ties to attach them back later. |

Here it is removed.

I removed the air box, MAS and UICP. Once again gives
more room to access the mount (shown by the arrow).

If you are cursed with ABS, remove the 2 bolts that hold it to the bracket (12mm). One has a ground wire connected. I believe I pointed the wrong one out on the right. You can figure it out. Be careful not to put too much tension on the unit's line. They will give to let you move it some and enough to get the mount later on. |

Since I have messed this up before on the FWD, I marked the engines position to the body using white out in several different places. This will let you know if the mount is reversed. If so, it will sit lower or higher. When the new mount is installed, the lines should still match. |

I choose to jack the transmission up instead of the engine. I did one mount at a time that way the others held the engine up. Jack it until you feel pressure on the jack handle. No need to jack it up higher, just hold it in place for the removal/install. Once again, the white out marks will help you. |

In the passenger wheel well, remove the 4 rubber plugs
and the four bolts inside (14mm). This holds the mount to the side of
the engine bay.

Remove the bolt that goes through the mount (17mm) with a socket or wrench. Use a wrench on one side to hold the bolt from turning. It should pull out easily due to the fact there is no weight on it. |

Looking over the Passenger fender, move the ABS unit slightly to the right and up to get the mount out. Once again, be careful not to stress the ABS lines. Work the mount out.

Here is the old mount out of the car. Pay attention to all details of how it is in there so you put the new one in per the very brief instructions that come with the new mount. I have made another page for the removal of the old mounts. CLICK HERE to see how I did it.

Here is the new insert in. Ready to go back into the
car.

Move ABS unit to the right again and place the new
mount in the same way it came out.

I put grease on the bolt to help it slide through
the hole easier and figure a little grease can't hurt.

Line it up with the hole on the tranny bracket and slide the bolt through. Place the nut on the through bolt (17mm) and hand tighten it. This enables you to have some movement when putting in the four bolts later (experience helped me figure this trick out : ). |

Put the four bolts (14mm) back in. Tighten them in a pattern as you would on a wheel. If it is way off alignment and you cant get them in try jacking the car up or down to accomplish this. Before you get too far, Check Your Marks (white out) to see if you are off once bolts are in. If the mount is off you will know it and you need to pull the mount and reverse or move it until it is correct when in. I did the FWD Auto backwards and it was a good inch to 2 off. This could disrupt the driveline. |

Tighten the bolt (17mm) and put all of the stuff back
together. Enjoy the good vibrations.
