Installing a Joe P Manual Boost Controller
I know there are other pages on this but I may cover something missed or give new ideas. This is to offer a visual of the procedure. Please read instructions provided with the boost controller. Also, check other Faqs in case I missed something.
I picked my JoeP up from www.boostcontroller.com A great site and good guy! My AWD was still a weak stock boost so now that I have rewired fuel pump, After Market Boost Gauge (A MUST!), hacked MAS and more! I was ready to move it up to 14 PSI or so.
Please note that overboosting your car is very dangerous and I cannot be held liable for any damage doing this mod. Please read ahead of what are the correct settings for your car by searching www.dsm.org

Here is the Joe P MBC fresh out of the box. Note the instructions that you still need to read! |

Start by removing the BCS Plug, the BCS itself and follow the hoses to their destinations. Remove the hoses (One on Aircan and the other to the Wastegate actuator). |
![]() |
Arrow (bottom left) is Wastegate actuator (for clarity). The upper bigger arrow shows where I removed the lower intercooler hose from the turbo compressor outlet to make it easier to get to wastegate actuator. |

I choose to use the old (longer) Wastegate hose so I blew all crud out with an air gun. There usually is crud in there. Also, I usually check hoses for breaks and cut the ends of where the clamps wear into them and the inside of the hose expands from being on the nipple for so long. You will see what I mean once removed. Cutting an inch or so off makes it a tighter fit when you put it back on. |

Here is a diagram/pic showing where each hose goes. Note: I reused the clamp from the stock hose. It is really snug. |

I placed the T-Fitting (reused from around the wastegate, also blown out with air) on the end of the hose to the BOV. |
![]() |
Place the new hose back on the Wastegate actuator. Clamp it on with stock clamp and make sure the hose is on tight and pushed down onto the nipple. |
![]() |
Remove the hose going from the BOV to the intake manifold and cut it for the T-Fitting. |
![]() |
Take the small piece of remaining hose an attach it to the BOV ( trimming the old end that was on the nipple off). Then put the clamp on it. The upside down "T" drawn in pic is where the fitting goes. |

I put a little RTV sealant on to give it a good seal. Make sure you put RTV far away from the holes. Blocking the passage will do no good and cause problems. It is usually not necessary to use RTV. Just my preference. |

Here is the T-Fitting Attached. The hose where my thumb is goes to MBC. Lower hose (in Pic) to BOV and upward hose to intake. |
![]() |
Tie off the hose (Not too tight) to keep it away from moving parts that could cut or burn it. The hose pictured goes to wastegate. |

Here is the controller mounted. I will make a bracket for it later on. |

Okay, All is done except the two unplugged holes. You can probably find plugs at the store but it was late and I had this idea. I took some left over tubing (believe it I have a lot left over) and placed RTV in the hole and on the top. Let it get tacky. |

Snatched one of these plastic end thingies from a closet rack (Will replace it later before I cut my head running into it). |
![]() |
Put it on the top of the hose covered in RTV. |
![]() |
I placed it on the airbox to cover this hole. Just in case I want to go back stock, I can pull it back off. |

Finally, I made another for the Turbo outlet elbow. Done. Now take the car out and carefully adjust the boost per your instructions. Start with it set at low boost. I was getting into 3rd gear to test mine. I would pull over and adjust it up a half a turn and keep trying. You need to be patient, the car takes a while to adjust. DO not trust the stock boost gauge! |
