FMIC Install 1993 Page 2

Here is where I passed the pipe through to the turbo outlet elbow.

I had to be very creative on the piping. These came off of a Galant VR-4 so I had to cut and piece together the pipes. I managed to get it to work. If I had to do it again, I would pay for the right pipes.

Another shot of the pipe from the engine bay heading to the turbo.

I have a HKS UICP so I started where the old Intercooler was with a 90 degree elbow.

This allows me to measure the straight piece I will need later on.

I fastened the other elbow to the FMIC.

The dotted line shows where I had to trim the frame so the elbows will line up with each other.

Another shot. Now I can measure the last piece of pipe.
Fasten it all together nice and snug. I actually added extra clamps as well.

I relocated the Coolant Reservoir bottle lower out of the way. I had to tie it to the frame of the car securely.

If not for the ABS unit, I would have placed it there.

A big picture to show the install so far.

I used Thermo-Tec wrap to prevent heat soak on the inlet pipe Just around the FMIC. The pipe gets hot leaving the turbo.

I wrapped the outlet pipe ALL the way to the throttle body. Arrows point where the wrap is.

Now I took the car for a spin around the block (and then some). I wanted to make sure the piping was not going to blow off before putting the bumper back on. I then retightened all of the clamps. The heat softens the couplers so you can torque them some more.

The discs are there to mark how wide to cut. I used and angle grinder and 6 to 7 discs to do all of the cutting.

This makes a mess and is tough to do. Be Careful!

The white line shows the actual cuts. I had to cut more for the piping and top of the FMIC. I also gutted the inside of the bumper (arrows) to get the pipe inside.

Of course My intercooler is tall so this will differ for your specific FMIC.

Put the bumper, all the bolts and clips back together.

Here it is finished. I had to immediately turn the boost down first thing (possible leak on the stock setup). I noticed a big difference after the install. Looks like more fuel will be the next project.

I will add another grill to cover it later.
